Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can occur following witness to a traumatic experience or event. World War One and PTSD can be connected very easily because the new war technologies and strategies like trench warfare provided ample opportunites for soldiers to experience something traumatic and develop PTSD. Seeing one of your buddies get his guts splattered, or watching him choke on poison gas were both easy ways to get PTSD. Overall, the effect of total war and the savagery in the battlefield in World War One provided the perfect setting for soldiers to develop PTSD.
