René Descartes was a french philosopher, mathematician, and a physicist who spent most of his life, after joining the Dutch Republic in his early life, forming an idea that people could think for themselves. This lead to a controversial idea that with humans thinking for themselves God was not needed in peoples lives. René Descartes is often regarded as one of the first modern thinker to provide a philosophical ideal for the natural sciences. Not only did Descartes suggest that God wasn't needed but he developed a method called Methodological Skepticism. According to wikipedia the way the method was used was that he would reject any idea that can be doubted and then reestablishes them in order to acquire a firm foundation for genuine knowledge. Although this method was a scientific breakthrough at the time, churches believed that this kind of rebellious idea was not fit for society. Descartes after his breakthrough method arrived with a conclusion that he exist because of his thoughts and that he cannot be separated from his thoughts. Descartes struck society with his ideas that people can live without God in their lives.
Bacon didn't really propose an actual philosophy but a method of developing philosophies. He proposed that rules can't be made for people for the simple fact that all people come with different ideals and overall are different. He declares that any action by a human is the action of their will which is governed and controlled by their belief. Resulting in the belief that no God given rule can be made or followed cause people are different. This idea not only shocked the community but gone against all ideas that have been taught through the years.
Overall Francis Bacon and René Decartes both were a leading force in the scientific revolution. They both defined common knowledge of today in a time where this breakthrough knowledge that God wasn't needed in everyday life not only made them look different but not accepted in their society.
