I understand the word "contract" to mean an agreement between two parties. The essence of this definition is agreement. It is a mutual understanding and both sides will have to uphold the contract. Those parties can be people, teams, schools or even the world we live in. When I say "the world we live in" I am talking about my own social contract. It is my mutual agreement with the world that whatever I do, I will do it to the best of my ability. Whether that's in basketball, academics or working out I will accomplish the task at hand and do it right the first time.
In the real world, the social contract is that only the strong survive. Once you finish school and can't live with your parents anymore, you're on your one. The contract that you have with the world is to find your niche and somehow make it in the rat race.
It would be an ideal world if the social contract was for everyone to have a positive impact in one way or the other, but that's a delusional thought. If everyone had to make the world a better place, we wouldn't have any problems. That is not the case though, the more realistic social contract is placed upon people entering the real world, it is the option of sinking or swimming, and no one wants to sink.
