Reanalyzing the Picture

NBC aired this piece in 1995 to remind people what happened. Although the bomb was dropped 50 years ago, many people still question whether or not it was the best decision. This NBC video provides (relatively) unbiased information so that people can form an educated opinion about the dropping of the bomb. NBC had individuals speak for both sides of the war. Survivors of the bombings told their stories, and members of the U.S. army present also told us their views. Major Charles Sweeney explains that, by dropping the bombs and not invading Japan, maybe hundreds of thousands of lives were saved. The NBC documentary was released 50 years after the bombing to encourage people to reanalyze the situation at the time. If the U.S. did not drop the bomb, perhaps we would not have won the war.
