Jacques Louis David

WRITE a blog post in which you first identify and analyze Simon Schama's thesis from The Power of Art: Jacques-Louis David and second test it by selecting a piece of David's art (easily found here, here, and here) and analyzing the purpose – propaganda or not – of your selected work.

Thesis: His thesis was that Jacques Louis David was a painter who never really expressed his views until he drew portraits such as the death of Mara, and his portrait of Napoleon. His views both politically and intellectually were expressed and his voice was heard. Such as when Mara was murdered and as a retaliation for that he drew a picture of him dead which was propaganda to attract naive people to believe his untrue ideas.

This painting shows that he was kind of band wagon in that he jumped to the winning side when Napoleon came into power. So he never really had any political ideas of his own, his fed off of the leaders that he sucked up too. So when he was kicked out and when he died he was shun d and blocked off from France even after his death.
