Meet Dieter Wagner, a member of the Alldeutscher Verband, which is a German group that supported pan-germanism and imperialism. He promotes the “German idea in the world” and justifies the imperialist movements of Germany as the rightful claim for world power. He is also a journalist of the Die Grenzboten, and his letters to the chief editor Georg Cleinow are of encouraging the war and discussing the news that must be put on the paper to persuade more people to join.

I liked how you picked someone who is for the war. Most people's characters were either anti-war or soldiers who fought and realized how terrible the war was. This was a very original idea! I also liked how your character was involved in all the propaganda that was used during The Great War to get more people to join. That would be a cool topic to explore and also to compare it to the types of propaganda used today for the war.
ReplyDeleteI like your character and his view of the war. He is just another one of the Germans who are for the war, so it would be interesting to see what he puts in his journals to please the chief editor or anger him.
ReplyDeleteI love how you chose to write your piece from the perspective of a journalist, who essentially has the power to influence the German public. We know that what fueled World War I was a overpowering sense of nationalism, but it's really interesting that you chose to look at it from someone who is promoting that nationalism.
