What is Nationalism?

Nationalism is the unification of the people in a country due to shared background, beliefs or objectives.

The Third Estate during the French Revolution is a prime example of nationalism. A huge majority of France united against the established system of monarchy to replace it with their own system of government. All of these people shared a common background and ethnicity, a belief that democracy was the best form of government, and the objective to remove the king and nobles from power.
