OPium and You

The distribution of opium lead to Chinas fall in its political and economic field. Because Britain had easily took advantage of China, it caused their political power to rise. Britain was able to push the opium into a widespread of countries allowing them to gain a powerful economic stature. China was then controlled by Britain because they were under control of their distribution. Neighboring nations observed the way Britain controlled China and were amazed at how easily it was to controlling them thus lowering Chinas rank. After Britain had declared war on China for outlawing Opium, China had fell further in their economic field and again their political field. Thus causing opium to be the reason for their sudden fall.

  1. I liked how you mentioned how China's status among other nations was lowered by their dependence on opium. Although this didn't have a huge impact on their fall from power, it probably contributed to China having less respect from, and therefore less control over, its neighboring countries.

  2. I agree with Emily's point of how it didn't have a huge impact on their fall from power, it definitely aided in the process because the opium might have helped them realize problems inside of their country and that in turn would make them doubt their respect for their country.
