Strayer asserts that the Russian revolutionaries took the French Revolution of 1789 as their model; to what extent is this true? Reference specific facts and concepts from each revolution to defend your answer.
What Strayer claims of how the Russian revolutionaries looked at the French Revolution as their model is, for the most part, correct. For both of them, the lower classes needed more power considering their numbers and their disadvantages. Also, what occurred in the Terror was very similar to what the Russian peasants did to the wealthy landlords of Russia. The peasants seized the estates of landlords and burned the manor houses, which is very similar to the third estate killing the officials and nobles in public. Also, they both wanted a political leader and a democratic government to get rid of the nobles and the hated monarchy. They both wanted a government more similar to a democracy to give the people more freedom and choices. Eventually, the Russian Revolution had differences from the French Revolution because they were both exposed to different events, which led to the similar revolutions. Even though the revolutions resulted in different ways, they both were formed by the same type of goal: To have more of a democracy and to let the people decide the fate of the country, rather than one corrupt leader.
