Maps Europe- Asia

WRITE a blog post in which you first COMPARE the maps on pg. 377 and 379. How does the map on 377 reflect European knowledge, bias, and interests?

This map it probably a political and a geographical map because it goes in deep detail on the distances between the Continents. This map reflects the European knowledge because at that time they did not know much the outside world. They also might have known that the planet was entirely spherical. They also believed North and South America were one when actually they were separated. Although they did seem to accurately depict both Asia, Europe, and Asia. and the islands around there. From the map it revealed that the cartographer did think that the planet was round, so they did have some belief in that matter. They also didn't know about both Antarctica, and Australia. The political aspect is that it showed routes to different areas that were non-Europe.

Then THINK AND WRITE about what a Chinese map from the 16th century might look like. How about one drawn by Ottoman cartographers? (Using the other maps in ch. 13 may help in thinking about these questions.)

I think that the Chinese map would be very similar to the Europe map but focusing on most of Asia, parts of Europe, and its trading routes. I also think that they wouldn't think that the planet was round they would probably think that it it was something else like square, or straight. It would go into deep detail on the trading routes because at that time China was very focused on expanding its trading routes so they could have more trading opportunities and expand their inventory.

The Ottoman Map would probably be similar to both but it would go into deep detail in the economy because they were one of the wealthiest Empires in that time. So they would write in that the economies of the neighboring countries were substantially less than theirs that might have been something that they would have wanted history to write about them in the future, that would be their trademark as being one of the richest countries of that time.
