Intolerance to Muslims

Why is there so much intolerance towards Muslims, even 8 years after 9/11?

Muslims have long endured persecution many times in histor , just like many other religious groups. Recently, as in this decade, the intolerance level toward Muslims is very high. It's not only Muslims that go through this. There have been many cases of intolerance to Muslims, orpretty much anyone with dark skin, especially in places like Airports. Many of these people happen to be Hindus and Sikhs from India. Even though it was just a small group of Muslim extremists that caused the 9/11 attacks, lots of people happen to think anyone who looks "Muslim" is a terrorist.

My story was about a Muslim woman who was not allowed to enter a pool because she was wearing traditional Muslim clothing. This was one drop in a sea of stories about intolerance to Muslims. I wish to observe more of these stories and what else has happened in this decade that caused intolerance to Muslims. Instead of actually learning what really happened, why are people still intolerant to people different from themselves?
