Why do people feel the need to discriminate against those who are different? Why don't authority figures do more to try and stop hate crimes? What would agreeing to take off the burqua mean to a Muslim woman?
These questions are very important to answer because they affect our every day lives. Racial, religious and other forms of discrimination are common in all countries with diverse cultures. As one of the most patchwork countries, Americans face many more cultures and belief systems in one day than many face in a week. Although many would argue that racial profiling and religious discrimination has improved in our country in the past few decades, it still definitely exists. The more we can learn about why intolerance and hate crimes occur and what they mean, the sooner we can figure out how to stop them.
